Fall To Me. Written, Produced and Performed by Shawn Collier.

Fall To Me is perhaps my favourite song that I’ve worked on though others come close. It’s a prime example of what one man and his bedroom can achieve with just a little electronica. I wrote around two years ago as part of a project called Fallout. I loved dealing with the imagery of America, Autumn and all things nuclear and I think this is the closest I’ve come to a theme that I’d say pretty well defines my songwriting style. All of these themes seem like they’re laced with death, destruction and uncertainty but that’s just one side of the spectrum. I’m looking back with rose tinted glasses as I write this blog post to a time when I was in New York last year, and all the emotions that conjures up.

There’s something breathtaking about the aesthetic of trees losing their leaves. They descend, cascading towards the floor, if each one had a story that’d be an album I’d love to write someday.

Fall To Me

Fall to me means life and death;
It’s the beginning of the end for us.
Falling out means nothing’s left,
But you reclaim a little in your heart.

Leaves fall so senselessly,
Propeller seeds fly without the need;
Spiral down ’til they touch the Earth
They plant the seeds within our dreams.

You can still feel the sunrise and I can still feel the heat.
Maybe we can work even though it’s colder,
We can try to fix what’s bare and gone.

Fall to me.
There’ll be nothing when you’re gone.
Fall to me.
We can still feed our legacy.

Breaking down is not an illusion,
Red’s the only colour that you’ll see.
In front of our eyes could be a new beginning,
As we wade through the death and hurt.

Maybe we’re drowning violently,
Lost in the afterglow.
Beaten down the cycle returns,
It’s a heart restless for love.

You can still feel the sunrise and I can still feel the heat.
Maybe we can work even though it’s colder,
We can try to fix what’s bare and gone.

Fall to me.
There’ll be nothing when you’re gone.
Fall to me.
We can still feed our legacy.

I can make out the patterns,
Tumbling as the snow falls down.
And I can make out your shadow,
even through the bitter snowman

I can feel the temperature rising,
Though it’s almost thirty below ya’
I can see the blazing sunlight,
Peeking through the scene of red and white.

Fall to me.
There’ll be nothing when you’re gone.
Fall to me.
We can still feed our legacy.
